For the safety of the dancer, teacher recommendation is required for pointe shoes and they are looking for dancers with strong cores and ankle strength and dancers who are able to hold their ballet placement at barre and center.
JAZZ
Jazz is a rhythmic stylized dance conceived in America and influenced by jazz music. Jazz combines an erect spine and formal dance patterns of Europe with rhythmic, flat-footed, bent kneed influences from African cultures. Class starts with a proper warm-up, continues with isolations, balance, flexibility stretches, floor progressions, and choreography. Students should expect a high energy class with upbeat music with a strong emphasis on jazz technique.
TAP
Tap is a form of dance in which the feet create rhythmic sounds. Tap dance was conceived in America but is influenced by cultural dances from Spain, Germany, England, Ireland, and Africa. Class warm-up begins either center floor or at the barre, followed by stationary movements to enhance sound clarity, and recognize rhythm patterns. Students will practice traveling movements across the floor and will continue to build upon single, double, and triple sounds. Class concludes with a combination that reiterates the steps taught previously.
LYRICAL/CONTEMPORARY
Lyrical/contemporary is a fluid form of dance done to popular ballads and slower contemporary music. The dancer is taught to interpret his or her movement with feeling, motion and style. They will learn to tell a story or create the picture of the song. This style combines the fluid beauty of ballet with the more sharp moves in jazz. A Ballet or Jazz class is recommended along with lyrical/contemporary to build in technique.
